My Summary and Reaction to Making the Gospel Central in Keller’s Article
It amazes me that I have not seen the connection that the Gospel is both truth and power both doctrine and life. Colossians 1:6 is becoming more and more important in my understanding how the Gospel is both rational and mystical in that it is truth that is a living power planted in our lives as Christians.
I now understand that the Gospel is not just minimum required doctrine necessary to enter heaven but the way I will make progress in the kingdom. I love Keller’s metaphor of the hub in a wheel of truth rather than the first step in a stairway of truths. The Gospel is truly the A to Z of Christianity rather than just eh ABC’s of Christianity.
It is so so so true that we “are not justified by the gospel and then sanctified by obedience, but the Gospel is the way we grow.” I need to work out this truth so I can see all my problems coming from a failure to aply the gospel. Oh, for the “continual re-discovery of the gospel.” in my life and in those whom I disciple.
It is very helpful to see the right and left of the Gospel line as Moralism/Legalism and Headonism/Relativism. One side is religious and the other side is irreligious. The Gospel is not the middle way but a third way to live life in relationship to God as savior.
read the article and especially how Tim Keller applies the Gospel to all areas of life as “the Key to Everything”.
