Gospel Centered Preaching vs. Informational Preaching

The “informational” view of preaching conceives of preaching as changing people’s lives after the sermon. They listen to the sermon, take notes, and then apply the Biblical principles during the week. But this assumes that our main problem is a lack of compliance to Biblical principles, when all our problems are actually due to a lack of joy and belief in the gospel. Our real problem is that Jesus’ salvation is not as real to our hearts as the significance and security our idols promise us. If that’s our real problem, then the purpose of preaching is to make Christ

John Piper – Why memorize scripture?

I plan this year to memorize 25 verses a week.  If you would like to join me please let me know.  It is always better to do this with a partner.   This quote by Churck Swindoll sums up my conviction for Scripture memory and motivation for  my discipline of meditating and memorizing God’s word.   I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture… No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and

Middleware is a Theology of Vision

Here is a great understanding what I have been trying to understand about applying doctrine to robust disciplemaking philosophy of ministry. but had no categories to explain it to others.  the concept of “Middleware” or DNA helps understand how people with the same doctrine may have a complete different engagement with culture and church ministries.    see also www.disciplemaking.net

Here is a great video on how to preach without notes, which I think if very important for today’s preachers.  This is very similar to the method discussed in Hugh Litchfiled’s book, “Visualizing the Sermon.” William J.
