What is your church measuring? What does that say about your mission?

I have always said that what you measure drives your behavior. I have found more conformation fo this in an article from Vanguard Church by Bob Robinson. He says: What is your church measuring? What does that say about your mission?: “ Edgar Schein, Professor of Management at MIT, says that whatever an organization measures becomes its de facto culture. Churches and ministry organizations write mission statements that are great, but they are only wishful thinking if they have put in place mechanisms to measure their success that are contrary to those lofty mission statements. For instance,a random mission statement

A church as a Teaching Hospital

Here is a great post on how we should view a church if we are going to multiply or plant other churches called: Planting a Church? Plant a Teaching Hospital by Brandon Cox. See if this kind of multiplication resonates with you. Brandon Cox writes: That phrase – “teaching hospital” – jumped out at me during a recent conversation with Geoff Surratt, Pastor of Church Planting at Saddleback Church. As we discussed the vision of Grace Hills Church over lunch, Geoff helped me put words to the burden I kept feeling to plant more than a church – to plant

Interview with David Allen

David Allen talks about the importance of getting stuff off your mind in this interview with Mike Sullivan of M.O. Mike: Let me ask you this. How important is it to follow this system exactly as you’ve outlined? I read the book a few years ago. I’ve implemented the system. I’m probably not using it to its fullest. What’s your perspective on that? David: Well, you either want nothing on your mind or you want to keep stuff on your mind. If you want nothing on your mind, you absolutely must rigorously download everything that is potentially meaningful, decide the

SBC Fault Lines

This is one of the first articles where a “win-win” or an “in-Christ” option in settleing “fault lines” within the SBC.  I have been reading about cooperation and the pursuit of truth for a long time, and it usually seems that people talk past each other instead of with each other realizing that while they may disagree on  secondary or tertiary doctrines, we don’t need to elevate them to essential doctrines that would cause us to separate over everything.   Nathan Fin wrote a great article on how a church can cooperate:  With Whom Can My Church Cooperate? In the Article Dr. Steve Lemke wrote that the SBC landscape includes several points of contention that

Bell’s Hell and the Destiny of Those Who’ve Never Heard of Jesus

Bell’s Hell and the Destiny of Those Who’ve Never Heard of Jesus: “by Sam Storms @ ParchmentandPen.com In a recent interview with Sally Quinn of The Washington Post, Rob Bell again muddied the waters over the question of the fate of those who’ve never heard about Jesus. In doing so he also greatly misrepresented the evangelical answer to this question. Here are his words: “If, billions and billions and billions of people, God is going to torture them in hell forever – people who never heard about Jesus are going to suffer in eternal agony because they didn’t believe in
