Andre’e Seu’s Tragic Mistake on the Gospel of Glenn Beck – Justin Taylor

Andre’e Seu’s Tragic Mistake on the Gospel of Glenn Beck – Justin Taylor I find Justin Taylors reference to a Theological Taxonomy from Michael Wittmer’s book, Don’t Stop Believing: Why Living Like Jesus Is Not Enough  is very helpful in showing the denial of the Gospel of Glenn Beck by distinguishing between  What you must believe, What you must not reject, and What you should believe. see also www.disciplemaking.net

Parchment and Pen – Why Calvinism is the Least Rational Option

Here is an article by Michael Patton in support of a Calvinistic soteriology because it doesn’t try to reduce the Gospel to our own human understanding.  When we try to make everything in the gospel understadable to man (whether they are regenerate or unregenerate) we may  be truncating the gospel by letting go of important Biblical truths.   Evangelical today tend to have a “Sub-Christian” worldview because they don’t hold fully to the truths of scripture when they don’t like or understand something. Associated Baptist Press – Broadway Baptist Church informs BGCT it will ‘discontinue’ relationship

This is a good thing.  When we stand for what is right and go in the the right direction, not everyone will follow.  People didn’t all follow Jesus as he continue to proclaim the Gospel, and they will not follow Faithful Christian churches, ministries, denominations, or schools. who are rightfully willing to stand for truth. Illustrations and Interest

This is a great way of looking at the use of illustrations.  It is also convicting.   Illustrations and Interest: by Peter Meede Illustrations are an interesting subject. Actually, my concern is that often illustrations are seen as the source of interest in a message. Therefore the best speakers, that is, the most interesting, are those who seem to be a repository of well-researched illustrations. But here’s my concern – do we rely on illustrations to be interesting? Let’s say, for argument’s sake, that we are relying on illustrations to be interesting. What does this imply? Does it imply that really

Spurgeon v. Hyper-Calvinism

This is from Ray Ortland’s blog over at the Gospel Coalition.  It was good for me to read and helpful from making too much of theology over Christ. Spurgeon v. Hyper-Calvinism: “ In Spurgeon v. Hyper-Calvinism, Iain Murray draws four lessons from that conflict: 1. “Genuine evangelical Christianity is never of an exclusive spirit. Any view of the truth which undermines catholicity has gone astray from Scripture.” Spurgeon regretfully disagreed with hyper-Calvinists who “made faith in election a part of saving faith and thus either denied the Christianity of all professed Christians who did not so believe or at least

Points of Pride

Points of Pride  by Peter Meede:  I suspect that if we’re honest, we’d all admit that preaching leads to numerous battles with pride. Perhaps not every time, perhaps not in the same way as each other, but there is an inherent danger that points of pride will peek through when we preach. Much of this may be an internal battle unseen by others except the Lord. But sometimes in our preaching we do things that can reveal, or be perceived to be, pride peeking through. A few examples: 1. References to “scholastic matters” – You know what I mean, the extra
