Here are characteristics or symptoms of the prideful heart of a people-pleaser: 1. He fears he displeasure of man more than the dis pleasure of God. The People-pleaser fears the wrong things – the disapproval of men. Fear can be good or bad. First of all one needs to understand that natural religion has it orgin in natural theology that starts man with out any revelation from God in the Scripture. Natural Theology stats with autonomous man and lead to rationalism, existentialism, mysticism, fideism, naturalism. The problem with comparative religious studies is that people are using the same words but with different meanings. So there have been different systems of naturalism theology:1. East – Plato > mysticism > Eastern Orthodoxy2. West – Aristotle > Rationalism or Empiricism > Roman Catholicism3. Me, an approval Junkie?
The sin of pride, which is at the heart of being a people pleaser, is an insideous thing. It seem that there always some individuals that I want to please. I keep wanting to accomodate (not that accomidation is wrong in itself) nonbiblical views and goals rather than boldly confronting them. The more I look to God and his Word the more I realize the sin of pride as an idol of my heart. see also www.disciplemaking.net
