True and Trustworthy

Pollsters flubbed the 2016 presidential election in seismic fashion.  Many are scratching their heads as to how our brightest pollsters could be so wrong.  Jonathan Barnett, a Republican National Committeeman from Arkansas, says, “The pollsters have lost a lot of credibility and won’t be believed on anything soon.”  I personally find it amazing that people will be honest with strangers that they don’t know when asking them about their most important values.  For many, our biases can lead us to the wrong conclusions.

While the polls were wrong in this election, the Bible is not.  For many that don’t believe in Scripture, their biases preclude them from understanding its message of “Good News.”  Even though the Bible has proven itself over and over again as totally true and trustworthy, people will believe men over the divinely inspire scriptures.  There are over 330 prophecies (not polls) that predicted the first coming of Christ.  To me, that would be enough for anyone to place their trust in its truthfulness.

The problem is our biases.  No one is neutral to what is possible and real.  One the primary causes against scripture is a presuppositional bias against the supernatural, against bodily resurrection from the dead, against miracles, or against instant healing of diseases.   But the main reason people people trust in man’s ways against the bible is because the truths of the Bible Rub them the wrong way.  People don’t like the idea that they will stand before God in Judgement or that the punishment for even one sin is Hell.
The psalmist wrote: “The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.” (Psalm 119:160).  In the New Testament, John writes, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17).  Jesus even declares the enduring truth of the Bible as God’s revelation when he says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Luke 21:33).  The whole Bible is true and trustworthy because “it is impossible for God to lie” as the divine author of the Bible (Hebrews 6:18).

Be encouraged to day that God continually proves that His word is more trustworthy than the wisdom of men – even their predictions (or polls) that they trust in.
