Book Review: Honest Evangelism

I enjoyed reading this book because it was an honest evaluation of how we communicate the gospel to an ever increasing atheist or religious population in the West.  People don’t start out with the same idea of God or worldview of creation that they did some 30-40 years ago.  This means that the way we communicate needs to change.

Author’s Purpose

The author is Rico Tice who is the creator of “Christianity Explored” Bible study that goes through the book of Mark.  It is an evangelistic bible study aimed at introducing a postmodern person to Christ in an environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions.  In this book, he acknowledges that the starting point for evangelistic conversations has changed.  He says,

Thirty years ago, if I were speaking with an atheist, that atheist would most likely be a “Christian” atheist; that is, the God in which the atheist did not believe would be the Christian God—which meant that the categories for discussion were still on my turf.

Honesty requires more transparency when cultivating an Evangelistic dialogue.  This book provides a helpful method of Bible reading as an effective way to keep sharing the Gospel as a way of life.  It is a quick and beneficial read.  I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
