Biblical Theology

Quote: The Archer and the Arrow – Agree or disagree?

Do you affirm this quote on Biblical Theology from “They Archer and Arrow” by Phillip Jensen and Paul Grimmond (pp.80, 81)?: Before the coming of Christ, God’s plans for the world were only revealed in embryo…. And yet in spite of such a great, God-given transformation between the ages, the people of the new covenant are to read the Old Testament as their book.  The early believers did not need to bridge the many centuries between themselves and Moses; they just needed to understand the word of God revealed in the Old Testament in light of the coming Christ.  What separated first-century Greeks from Hebrews who lived 2000 years before them was

Placing a Bible Verse in the pattern of Sound Words (2 Timothy 1:13)

I continue to study and work on how the bible frames the demands of the New Testament Law upon unbelievers since we have a new lawgiver Jesus instead of Moses. This concept of framing is very important because to now see every verse in its Canonical framework can make us misuse texts. Paul says to Timothy: “Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1:13 ESV). Notice that we are not just to follow the words but the pattern (the framework) of sound

A working Definition of Biblical Theology

Here is a short definition of Biblical theology that I am working on, compiling and editing as I keep reading: Biblical Theology is responding to the way the Bible is.  Biblical Theology is responding to the fact that the Bible is an overall unity and structure.  Biblical Theology sees each book of the Bible making its own contribution to the over all picture of God and his plan that climaxes in the person and work of Jesus Christ.  Biblical Theology is trying to understand how every part of the bible relates to every other part and more specifically how every part of

Christian Scholarship in a Nutshell

Here is a great blog by Michael Patton at Parchment and Pen on how scholarship works with Bible Study.  It seems that for many of us we don’t spend enough time with the Bible (and that should be our main focus as believers), but we all participate and must participate in all three areas or types of Christian Scholarship even if we do not realize it.  As Christians we should check our brains at the door of our closet or church, but use our intelect under the control and power of the Spirit to understand God, His Word, and His world better. The
