I appreciate much of this perspecive of evangelism and church life. Having served in a parachurch organization, I have always see Scripture placing the home of evangelism in the community life of the local church. I have been preaching and calling people to submit to the Bible alone (Sola Scriptura, not Sola Scriptura) as the authoirty for all of life, but it seems that people today are satisfied with a partial, truncated, and reductionistic Gospel that makes Evangelism into a huministic endever by defining the Gospel on their own authority. I see many local churchs today who claim to be a group of regerated people disobedient to the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) because we individualize the command to the neglect of the necessary Biblical community development and expansion (Ephesians 4:11-16). Now I have a name for this problem (or should I call it sin) that I have been struggling with for years – “Gospel Reductionism.” I have been guilty of “gospel reductionism as well, when I segment evangelism to a function of the church for which we plan individually for rather than seeing the whole church body as the instrument and witness of the gospel. I started “Disciplemaking Mnistries” to try to explain and promote the integration of all life under the Lordship of Chist to fight against the individualistic sementation and reductionism of evangelism, devotion, worship, and community in a local church body. Ask your self, “How do I (or can I) reclaim the gospel in its power and deep spirituality? Am I working to se the glory of God displayed in a Biblical community or just in my own world? Reductionism is a enemy that we must battle every day if we are to faithful to be gospel driven in our mission. See what you think. —
